Shoot Days: 4
Deliverables: 1 Stop Motion Launch Film
Location: Perspective HQ
Distribution: LEGO Website, LEGO Builder App, App Store
🧱 The Brief
LEGO wanted to showcase their new LEGO Builder app, designed to make building a more social, collaborative experience.
The app allows friends to build together by breaking a set into step by step sections that can be shared between multiple builders. The film needed to clearly communicate this feature while staying true to the tactile, hands-on nature of LEGO.
🎬 The Approach
We created a single stop motion film that blended animated LEGO builds with real hands interacting with the bricks.
Rather than separating live action and animation, everything existed within one handcrafted world. Real hands entered the stop motion scenes to build, pass, and assemble pieces, reinforcing the idea that LEGO building is physical, shared, and human.
🛠️ The Production
The entire film was shot as stop motion over four days.
Each sequence carefully demonstrates how the app breaks builds into smaller steps that different people can complete together. Using real hands allowed the collaboration to feel natural and relatable, while the stop motion technique kept the focus firmly on the bricks themselves.
All motion, transitions, and build moments were created practically in camera, with no CGI.
✂️ Post Production
Post production focused on pacing and clarity.
The edit ensured the app functionality was easy to understand, while maintaining a playful rhythm that matched the animation style. Subtle sound design added life and energy without overpowering the visuals.
⚡ The Result
A single, handcrafted launch film that explains a digital product through physical making.
Featured on the LEGO homepage, within the LEGO Builder app, and on the App Store.
A tactile, collaborative film that brings the joy of building together to the screen.
